November 2016 News

Welcome to Bayside Hapkido’s November Newsletter. October was a big month with Master Nick seminar, kids and adults grading and the start of the new kid's syllabus. November is also a big month with Adam attempting his Spirit test at IHA headquarters.

Master Nick Seminar

Bayside Hapkido was lucky enough to have a visit from Master Nick who is from London, UK on the 24th of October. Only a few students had seen Master Nick, either in Mexico last year or at a seminar in Sydney. It was great to have him give seminars to both kids and adults; he is an excellent presenter and amazing martial artist.

The kids got to learn a lot of techniques including a few new locks and were treated to a fun time.

The adult’s seminar left everyone with some aching legs! Master Nick took the adults through some intense partner stretching and explained that people often lack power in their kicks, not only due to lack of flexibility but also a lack of strength in leg and core muscles. Legs then stretched, the adults then went through some new kicks and variations to kicks on the syllabus. Adults learned some new blocking/striking/kicking drills and how to generate extra power and flow with some of the strikes. Adults then went through some clinch work, reversals and take-downs. There was then discussion and question time, and Master Nick couldn’t believe how late it was after he had shared so many techniques!

We were very grateful to have Master Nick present at Bayside Hapkido, and all of the seminars were fantastic.

Training Tip

Don’t keep training the techniques you know you’re good at- get better at the techniques you find difficult. Don’t practice your ‘good’ side more than your ‘bad’ side- aim to be able to do techniques well on both sides.
